SEO audit

Find out what limits your visibility and how to fix it.

An SEO audit is an analysis of your website in three layers: technical, content (on-page) and links (off-page). You get a report with priorities and a recorded 90-minute review session.

Who it is for

When does an SEO audit actually pay off?

An SEO audit brings the most value when you face a specific business decision and need data to base it on: before a site migration, after a drop in visibility or before scaling up SEO work.

The four most common situations in which clients come to me:

01

A company that does not know why it is not growing

You have traffic and content, but rankings are stuck. An SEO audit shows where the blockage is: in the technical setup, in the content or in the link profile.

02

E-commerce with hundreds or thousands of URLs

In an online store I also check the category structure, product pages, pages generated by filters, duplicate content and crawl budget: the areas where websites with hundreds or thousands of URLs usually have problems.

03

A website before a migration or redesign

A platform change, a new URL architecture, a new CMS: done without an SEO audit and a 301 redirect plan, it can take away a large part of your existing traffic from Google.

04

A company after a penalty or a drop in visibility

A sudden drop in traffic after a Google algorithm update, such as a core update, needs a diagnosis. An SEO audit shows what the algorithm rated worse and what you can do about it.

What an SEO audit is

A diagnosis, not a list of errors.

An SEO audit is a structured analysis of a website against the factors that decide rankings in Google: technical, content and links. The result is a report with priorities, in which each recommendation has a score for implementation difficulty (1–5) and estimated impact (1–5). You do not get an alphabetical list of errors exported from a tool.

An SEO audit opens every sensible SEO project. Without a diagnosis, nobody knows whether the problem is indexing, content, the link profile or all three at once.

In an Ahrefs study from 2023, covering more than 14 billion pages, 96.55% of pages got no traffic from Google at all. As the main reasons, Ahrefs named a lack of links and topics that nobody searches for. An SEO audit shows which of your pages have this problem and what exactly to do about it.

I write the report for two readers: a summary for management in business language and detailed recommendations for the developer. Each recommendation has a difficulty score (1–5) and an estimated impact score (1–5), so you know where to start, even without SEO knowledge.

In practice

Each of my audits ends with a recorded 90-minute session where we go through the results.

I do not leave you with just a document. You talk to the author, who explains every recommendation and answers your developer’s questions.

Audit scope

What does an SEO audit cover?

An SEO audit covers three layers of analysis: technical (crawling, indexing, Core Web Vitals, robots.txt, sitemap.xml), content (keywords, search intent, duplicates, structured data) and links (link profile, keyword gaps, comparison with competitors). Below is the detailed scope of each layer.

Layer 01

Technical SEO audit

What I check in detail
  • Crawling and indexing (Screaming Frog and Google Search Console)
  • Robots.txt and sitemap.xml: correct directives and coverage
  • Server log analysis: crawl budget and Googlebot behavior
  • JavaScript rendering (React, Vue, Angular, Next.js)
  • Core Web Vitals and loading speed (LCP, INP, CLS): PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse
  • URL architecture, canonical tags, pagination, parameters
  • Internal linking and the structure of topic clusters
  • Hreflang and multilingual websites, including multi-domain setups
  • HTTPS / SSL, mixed content, security headers

Layer 02

On-page and content audit

What I check in detail
  • Keyword and search intent analysis
  • The website’s topical map and content gaps compared with competitors
  • Duplicates and thin content pages: diagnosis and a fix plan
  • Meta titles and descriptions, H1–H6 headings, content structure
  • Structured data (schema.org): types, correctness, coverage
  • Optimization for featured snippets, People Also Ask and AI Overviews
  • Keyword cannibalization and URL consolidation
  • Optimization for GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): how citable you are in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity

Layer 03

Off-page and competitor audit

What I check in detail
  • Backlink profile analysis (Ahrefs)
  • Unnatural links and the risk of Google manual actions
  • Comparison with 3–5 competitors from the top 10 results
  • Keywords your competitors are visible for and you are not
  • Differences in domain authority (Domain Rating, number of referring domains) compared with competitors
  • E-E-A-T signals outside the website: brand mentions, citations, sameAs

What you get after the audit

A report, priorities
and a review session.

After an SEO audit you get a report, a priority table and a recorded 90-minute review session. Before you hand anything to a developer, you know which fixes bring the biggest gains at the lowest cost.

  • A report in XLSX, PDF or Google DocsTwo parts: a summary for management in business language and detailed recommendations for the developer, with screenshots and code snippets.
  • Priority table: difficulty × impactEach recommendation has a score for implementation difficulty (1–5) and estimated impact on visibility (1–5). You know exactly in which order to implement.
  • A recorded 90-minute review sessionOnline, with a recording you can come back to. I also answer your developer’s questions. Three months after implementation, you can order a short review of the results.

Step by step

What does the SEO audit process look like?

An SEO audit has five stages: a free intro call, access setup, analysis (5–14 business days), the report with a recorded 90-minute review session, and optional support with implementation. I do not flood you with progress reports every two days. You get a finished result.

The duration depends on the size of the website: small websites take 5–7 business days, large e-commerce stores 2–3 weeks.

01

Free intro call

Online. You tell me about the project: its history, goals, problems and SEO work done so far. Based on that, I estimate the scope of the audit and the delivery time.

02

Access

I need access to Google Search Console (restricted user or owner), Google Analytics 4 and, optionally, Apache/nginx server logs. I prepare a list of access rights with instructions on what to click and where.

03

Analysis (5–14 business days)

The time depends on the size of the website. Small websites (up to 200 URLs): 5–7 business days. Medium (200–2,000 URLs): 10–14 business days. Large stores and portals (over 2,000 URLs): 2–3 weeks.

04

The report and a 90-minute review session

You get the report at least 24 hours before the session, so there is time to read it. In the 90-minute online session I go through the priorities and answer questions, including your developer’s. I record the meeting, and the recording stays with you.

05

Support with implementation (optional)

The audit is a document, and implementation is separate work. I can support the implementation as an SEO consultant (billed by the hour), go through the recommendations directly with your developer, or check the results of the implementation after 3 months.

Tool stack

Tools I use in an SEO audit

Show the full list of tools (6)

In an SEO audit I use professional tools chosen for each layer of the analysis. What counts, though, is what follows from the data and how it translates into the order of implementation. All licenses are on my side.

01

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

Crawling the URL structure, analyzing meta titles and descriptions, finding 4xx/5xx errors, duplicates and canonical tags. On larger websites I also analyze Googlebot logs in Screaming Frog Log Analyzer.

02

Google Search Console

Indexing data, crawl errors, Core Web Vitals reports based on real user data (CrUX), manual actions and security issues. The first source of truth about how Google sees your website.

03

Google Analytics 4

Analysis of organic traffic, user behavior and conversions by page and channel. Without GA4 you cannot connect SEO work with business results.

04

Ahrefs

Backlink profile, Domain Rating, competitor keywords and analysis of the top 10 results. My main tool for link analysis and competitor comparison.

05

Google PageSpeed Insights + Lighthouse

Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), loading speed, resource optimization. Lab data (Lighthouse) and field data (CrUX) together give a full picture of performance.

06

Apache / nginx server logs

Analysis of Googlebot behavior: what it crawls, how often and where it wastes crawl budget. Essential for large e-commerce websites and for diagnosing JavaScript SEO.

In addition: Sitebulb, JetOctopus, Schema Markup Validator, the Rich Results Test and Profound (AI visibility monitoring).

Pricing

How is an SEO audit priced?

FAQ

Common questions about SEO audits

What is an SEO audit?

An SEO audit is an analysis of a website in three layers: technical (crawling, indexing, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, Core Web Vitals), content (keywords, duplicates, structured data) and links (link profile, competitor analysis, differences in domain authority). The result of the audit is a report with priorities, not an alphabetical list of errors. Each recommendation has a difficulty score (1–5) and an estimated impact score (1–5).

How much does an SEO audit cost?

The price depends on the size of the website. A basic audit (up to 200 URLs), an extended audit (200–2,000 URLs), an e-commerce audit and an advanced audit (JS SEO, multiple domains, 2,000+ URLs) are priced differently, and you get a quote before the work starts. The intro call is free, and after it I give an exact quote.

Is an SEO audit free?

No. An SEO audit takes from several to several dozen hours of analysis, which is why it is paid. The intro call is free: during it I assess the scope and quote the project. A “free audit” on other websites is usually an automated report from a tool (Screaming Frog, Semrush) without interpretation or priorities.

How long does an SEO audit take?

The delivery time depends on the size of the website. Small websites (up to 200 URLs): 5–7 business days. Medium websites (200–2,000 URLs): 10–14 business days. Large e-commerce websites or portals (2,000+ URLs): 2–3 weeks. I always give the exact date after the free intro call, in which I assess the complexity of the project.

What tools do you use in an SEO audit?

In an SEO audit I use tools chosen for each layer of the analysis: Screaming Frog SEO Spider (crawling, titles and descriptions, 4xx/5xx errors, duplicates, canonical tags), Google Search Console (indexing, crawl errors, Core Web Vitals, manual actions), Google Analytics 4 (traffic, behavior, conversions), Ahrefs (backlink profile, competitor keywords, competitor analysis), Google PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse (LCP, INP, CLS, loading speed) and Apache/nginx server logs (Googlebot behavior, crawl budget, JavaScript rendering).

How often should an SEO audit be repeated?

It depends on the size of the website and the pace of change. Small service websites: once every 12 months or after major changes (redesign, migration, CMS change). E-commerce stores and large websites: every 6 months, because Google algorithm changes, competitors’ actions and AI Overviews need a regular diagnosis. After implementing the recommendations from the previous audit, it is worth ordering a mini-review after 3 months to verify the results.

What is the difference between an SEO audit and SEO consulting?

An SEO audit is a one-time diagnosis of the website’s condition, ending with a report with recommendations and priorities. SEO consulting means regular meetings where we work on current problems and on implementing changes. Most companies first need an audit to set the priorities, and then consulting to implement them with their own developers.

What do I need for an SEO audit?

For an SEO audit I need access to Google Search Console (restricted user or owner), Google Analytics 4 and, optionally, Apache/nginx server logs. I prepare step-by-step instructions on how to grant each kind of access. I do not need access to the CMS panel or to the source code. I work on the data Googlebot sees and on data from GSC and GA4.

Do I get the audit as a PDF file?

Yes, and if you prefer, also as XLSX or Google Docs. Each report has two parts: a summary for management (in business language, with a priority table and estimated impact) and detailed recommendations for the developer (with screenshots, code snippets and implementation steps).

What happens after the SEO audit?

After the 90-minute review session you have three options: you implement on your own based on the full specification with priorities, you implement with your own developer (I go through the recommendations directly with your team), or you hire me to support the implementation, billed by the hour. Three months after implementation I can check the results.
